Women’s History Month: Anything You Can Do…

Since it’s still March, then it must still be Women’s History Month, which means we’ve got another playlist for you. This time, we’re paying tribute to some songs that were originally recorded by men but were reinvented – or at least re-recorded – by female vocalists. In some cases, you may be surprised to find that they’re even cover songs, such as “Respect,” which Aretha Franklin owns so completely that younger audiences often don’t realize that it was actually written and first recorded by Otis Redding, while there are some in this list that may cause you to do a complete double-take…like, say, Ella Fitzgerald tackling the Beatles’ “Savoy Truffle.” (Not exactly one of the Fab Four’s hit singles, that one.) However you may feel about these covers, here’s hoping you hear something new in at least a few of them.
