Duran Duran's connection to David Bowie goes all the way back to 1981, when Simon Le Bon and company covered "Fame" as the B-side of the band's second single, "Careless Memories." Today, the New Wave stalwarts debuted the striking new music video for Bowie's "Five Years," covered as part of the recent "Just For One Day" Bowie birthday tribute livestream, organized by longtime Bowie collaborator, Mike Garson.

"David Bowie's apocalyptic vision in the song 'Five Years' was written almost half a century ago yet it seems ever more poignant today," keyboardist Nick Rhodes said in a press statement. "Although it is five years since David left Planet Earth, his vast catalog of songs remain as significant and inspirational as they always have been. Mike Garson's heartfelt celebration show was a testament to the breadth of influence that David had on other musicians. It was also a display of the deep affection and gratitude for what he gave to us all."

Garson is featured in the clip, which according to Rhodes, was created utilizing "green screen" technology. Rhodes jumped on Instagram Live to introduce the video, answering fan questions and riffing on a variety of subjects, including his fascination with Bowie as a teen. The keyboard player also dropped a bit of news, answering a fan's question about new Duran Duran music by revealing that at that very moment, singer Simon Le Bon was in the studio putting down vocals on a brand new tune the band is working on.
