John Bonham of Led Zeppelin: May 31, 1948 - September 25, 1980
May 31, 2021 marked what would have been Led Zeppelin drummer John "Bonzo" Bonham's 73nd birthday. Born in 1948, Bonham started playing drums at the tender age of five. He got his first drum kit when he was fifteen. Playing in a number of bands throughout the early and mid-1960s, two of those groups included singer Robert Plant. It was Plant who suggested Bonham to Jimmy Page for the soon to be christened new band, Led Zeppelin. Bonham anchored Led Zeppelin with his bombastic and influential style until his untimely passing in 1980 at the age of 32. In 1995, John Bonham was inducted posthumously into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
In honor of one of rock's greatest drummers, here's video of John Bonham bashing through his signature drum solo in the tune, "Moby Dick."
