Out Tomorrow: Faith No More Deluxe Reissues
When Faith No More regrouped to release last year’s SOL INVICTUS, the band’s first new studio album in nearly two decades, we here at Rhino celebrated the occasion by delivering deluxe reissues of their albums THE REAL THING and ANGEL DUST. In an effort to spread the wealth, we opted to wait a little while before dropping the next two albums in the deluxe-reissue series, but now it’s time to kick things off again: as of tomorrow, you’ll be able to pick up the 2-CD reissues of KING FOR A DAY…FOOL FOR A LIFETIME and ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Better yet, you’ll also have the opportunity to pick up double-LP versions of the albums on 180-gram vinyl.

As Faith No More’s first full-length studio endeavor without guitarist Jim Martin within their ranks, the band found themselves getting as musically experimental as they’d ever gotten. Indeed, in the liner notes for the reissue, keyboardist Roddy Bottum writes, “We wrote and recorded some of our most radical, out-there songs, like 'Cuckoo For Caca' and 'Ugly In The Morning,' some of our mellowest like 'Take This Bottle,' 'Caralho Voador' and then some or our most high-drama, like 'Just A Man.'" In addition, the deluxe edition offers eight bonus tracks, among them a cover of the Bee Gees’ “I Started a Joke.”

First and foremost, you should know that this LP is the answer to the trivia question, “What was the only Faith No More album” to hit #1?” True story. It’s also one of the band’s darker albums, with material that at times isn’t so terribly far removed tonally from what they’d been doing during the Angel Dust era. Among the eight bonus tracks you’ll find a cover of “This Guy’s in Love with You,” the Bacharach/David song which Herb Alpert turned into a smash hit. You really never know what Faith No More is going to do next, do you?
