Now Available: John Coltrane, GIANT STEPS (Mono)
Ahoy, ‘Trane spotters! Remember not long ago when we released TRANE: THE ATLANTIC COLLECTION, a nine-track compilation containing material drawn from his Atlantic Records work between 1959 and 1961, and we told you that we’d be offering up more Coltrane in the very near future? And then remember not long after that when we made good on that promise and reissued five of his albums in mono on 180-gram vinyl?
Well, here’s another thing to make Coltrane fans swoon: we’ve just reissued the mono version of GIANT STEPS on CD.
If you know anything at all about Coltrane, then you’re probably already aware of GIANT STEPS, but it’s one of the albums that even people who say they don’t like jazz have been known to fall in love with. Coltrane recorded it in the wake of contributing to Miles Davis’s KIND OF BLUE, and he was definitely coming into his own as a bandleader. If you don’t own it, you should...and now you can!
