Instant Gratification: The Doors, “Break On Through”

You’ve heard that it was coming, and you heard right, but you’ve still got some time yet until the release of The Doors’ LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 1970. That said, we might just be able to provide you with something to help pass the time ‘til it gets here.

On February 23, Rhino – in a collaboration with Eagle Rock Entertainment – will be releasing LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 1970 in both a DVD/CD package and a Blu-ray/CD package. Filmed when the band performed at 2 a.m. on August 30, 1970, the concert has been restored, color-corrected, and visually upgraded using the most current technology available to us. In addition, it’s now presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound which was mixed from the original multi-track audio by Bruce Botnick, who – as Doors diehards know – has been working with the band as a co-producer, engineer, and mixer since the old days.

In addition to the concert itself, there’s also a bonus featurette: “This Is The End,” which features interviews with Robby Krieger, John Densmore, and original Doors manager Bill Siddons, all of which were directed by the man who helmed the original concert film, Murray Lerner. There’s also archival interview footage of Ray Manzarek. Alas, you won’t get any interview footage of Jim Morrison, but you’ll see plenty of footage of him onstage and in his element.

Oh, but you wanted to know how we were going to help you pass the time, didn’t you? Well, this should be of assistance: it’s an advance stream of the Isle of Wight version of “Break on Through.”
