Happy Birthday: David Lee Roth

It’s David Lee Roth’s birthday, and given how much he’s given to us over the years both as the frontman of Van Halen and as a solo artist, this is most certainly a day worth celebrating.

Diamond Dave has, like just about everyone else in the free world, his very own YouTube channel, although it generally focuses less on his music than it does The Roth Show, a YouTube program that gives our man Dave a chance to be the TV star he always wanted to be. Even back in his music video heyday, you could tell that Roth enjoyed being in front of the camera and hamming it up – and we use that phrase lovingly – whenever the opportunity presented itself, and to celebrate his birthday, we thought we’d offer up a classic example of Dave in all his 1980s glory.

Buried deep within his aforementioned YouTube channel, Dave has offered up a video entitled “Dave TV Plus,” and if you ever grinned while watching him lip-synching to “California Girls,” “Just a Gigolo,” and his other early hit singles, then you’ll dig this: not only are the videos included within this 31:12 program, but Dave delivers some audio commentary along the way.
